I have just received an email from Sarah Jones of Oxted Court Farm which imparts some very interesting information re the Haywards and the Lashmars. Sarah tells me that she

"...had been reading your website – very interesting!   I am currently investigating the history of my house in Oxted (who owned it and who lived there etc) and I keep getting your website in the search results when I look for former residents...

I live at Oxted Court Farm which is a late 16th/early 17th century farmhouse that allegedly used to be the manor house before Barrow Green Court was built.

Names like Hayward, Lashmar, Robert Palmer, and Nash are linked to my house (they seem to have been tenant farmers) and although the dates don’t always match I wonder if they are relations (for example I think that your John Marchant#4 Lashmar is the same John Lashmar who was on the census at my house along with his wife Mary Lashmar in 1881).

A sale catalogue of the contents of the house from 1780 list rooms called ‘Malt Garret’ and ‘Brew house’ – I do not know if this was a normal thing to have in a farm house or not?  Anyway, I thought that you might like to know and that you may be able to help me!

Also here are the pages from the 1780 catalogue listing the various items for sale, and who bought them.

I hope you find this interesting and that it helps you

If you have found any link to or mention of ‘Oxted Court’ or ‘Court Farm’ Oxted in your investigations would you mind sharing??

She had also attached her notes and timeline so far in case any of the names/dates fit with my research or give me new leads. I will be examining them minutely! Many thanks, Sarah!
